About Vertrae®
Board-certified neurosurgeon and neurological spine surgeon Kamal Woods, MD, MBA, FAANS, is co-founder of Vertrae® in Dayton, Ohio. As a renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Woods is proud to provide personalized care, just for you.
Dr. Woods earned his medical doctorate (MD) from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California. Upon graduating, he completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He then pursued his minimally invasive and complex spine fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He recently completed his Master of Business Administration at Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business in Baltimore, Maryland.
Prior to establishing Vertrae®, Dr. Woods worked in academic neurosurgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he taught medical students and residents. He moved with his wife and kids to Dayton, Ohio, to embrace the role of Network Medical Director of Neuroscience for a network of hospitals. Dr. Woods holds hospital appointments at several hospitals in the Great Dayton region. However, he is now an independent private practice neurosurgeon. He is a member of the Ohio State Medical Association, Ohio State Neurosurgical Society, North American Spine Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and California Medical Association.
As Dr. Woods recalls, it all started one Sunday afternoon in the fall of 2015 while chatting with his wife on an open terrace in Temecula Wine Country, Southern California. The weather was perfect! Beautiful vineyards provided the backdrop. Everyone was smiling and relaxed. Could we learn something from this experience that would inspire the way we deliver health care? It became their obsession to understand what experiences and emotions their patients really wanted and they promised to work as hard as they could to deliver such an experience. The concept behind Vertrae® was born: To create an immersive, personalized experience for every patient, unlike anything they had ever felt before. Vertrae® is the realization of that dream!
At Vertrae®, Dr. Woods is very patient-centered and strives to provide the best treatment options for his patients. He offers back surgery, disc replacement, robotic surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgery for conditions like spinal stenosis, sciatica, and pinched nerves.
He is currently accepting patients and offers virtual appointments to enhance care, with 24/7 availability on demand. Schedule a visit by calling the office or booking online today.

PHILOSOPHY BEHIND VERTRAE
1. Patients come first
Nothing is too much for our patients. It is our honor to care for you.
2. The guest experience is important to us
Patients are guests, not clients. Our goal is to create an immerse experience filled with warmth
3. Health care should be personalized
Every guest is unique and special. The care we offer should be customized to suit each guest.
4. Technology may be used to enhance care
Our world is increasingly digital. "Vertrae" is a combination of virtual and vertebrae (spine).
5. Spine surgery is not for everyone
There are many ways to treat neck and back pain. Surgery should be the last option.
6. Do less to get better results
Even when surgery is needed, minimally invasive spine surgery provides a faster road to recovery.
